Spotlight On NBC 5, A Diamond Level Gala Sponsor

GRACE has the exciting opportunity to welcome Laura Harris of NBC 5 to emcee the GRACE Gala this year!  Laura Harris is an Emmy Award and Associated Press award-winning journalist who joined the NBC 5 team in September 2018 as a reporter and weekend evening anchor. She comes to Dallas-Fort Worth from the ABC affiliate in Tampa, Florida.  Some highlights of Laura’s career at ABC Action News included covering President Barack Obama’s visit to Cuba in 2016 and covering the Tampa Bay Rays while they played the Cuban National Team in Havana.  She also covered Pope Francis’ historic visit to Cuba in 2015! The vigor and enthusiasm of the master of ceremonies often define the energy of the room and ensure the evening runs seamlessly and with strong merit.  GRACE is honored to partner with such well-respected professionals who have a genuine desire to employ their talents for such a

Angels of GRACE Art Gallery

Earlier this summer several of our devoted and incredibly creative volunteers and staff came together to coordinate an art project day for some participants of Feed Our Kids.  The children enjoyed creating “pour art” and participating in a fun photo project.  And quite the artists the kids turned out to be – the pieces look phenomenal! In the last few weeks, we had a couple of local businesses, The Creative Pantry and Vetro Glassblowing Studio and Fine art, offer their artistic services so that several more of our clients could create works of art.  The goal is a brand new, incredibly unique addition to our Gala Auction.  We are excited to introduce our Angels of GRACE Art Gallery! We cannot wait for our GRACE Family to see the exceptional exhibit we are putting together.  Every piece of art that will be showcased was made by our amazing clients thanks

Holiday Food Drive Needs

We are not talking about putting up Christmas trees just yet, GRACE Family, but it is that time to begin preparing for our Holiday Food Drive Needs! For hundreds of years the universal expression to commemorate something meaningful is to gather around the table.  The Pilgrims’ Meal, Passover Feast and Last Supper are central examples of this human phenomenon. It is that same marvel (along with pumpkin pie) that brings families together each season for the ultimate purpose of extending gratitude and reflecting on their blessings. The sights, sounds and smells of Thanksgiving preparation are often an event unto itself.  The anticipation, the gooey goodness of grandma’s sweet potato casserole, the energy of parades and football games, a perfectly-caramelized turkey — each are the trimmings of the beauty of family gathered around the table. It’s a lineage of sentiment for most families, but for some, it’s just unfeasible.  This

MEATing Our Needs

Last month, there were around 750 visits to the GRACE food pantry alone!  Each visit equipped a family or individual with food staples to keep them from going hungry. Food insecurity is a huge issue in the United States with Tarrant County’s food insecure families ranking above the state and national average.  Thanks to donations from organizations, churches, individual donors, food drives, etc., GRACE Pantry shoppers are able to pick out their own groceries, being the most knowledgeable about their families’ food preferences and needs. We publish an updated “Most Needed Foods” list on our website so that donors know what foods are low in stock or sometimes completely out of stock throughout the year.  Meat could ALWAYS be on that list as it is a “luxury” and usually available only occasionally for shoppers. Recently, we sent out our “Red Letter” plea for staples for The Pantry at a

Cooking Matters And So Do You!

Cooking Matters, a program of Share Our Strength through Tarrant Area Food Bank, is a cooking-based nutrition program. This innovative program provides a long-term solution to hunger and poor nutrition by demonstrating strategies to get the best nutrition possible on a limited budget.  GRACE is a site host for the program which had twelve graduates from our most recent class! These hands-on courses are taught by nutrition and culinary instructors who volunteer to teach nutrition, cooking, food budgeting and shopping techniques. Additionally, groceries are provided for participants to take home at the end of class each week so that they can practice preparing the healthy recipes at home to share them with their families. Cooking Matters volunteers help ensure that the participants have a great class experience and are able to put the healthy habits they learn into practice at home. You can volunteer next as a culinary or

Welcome Home, Veronica

By the time a client is accepted as a GRACE Transitional Housing Program participant, the individual or family is usually at their most vulnerable.  Often the unseen emotional wounds are raw due to prolonged domestic abuse, sudden career loss or other wearisome circumstances that brought them to our doors. Clients appreciate the material assistance provided through GRACE donors, from the services GRACE provides to the physical items they use.  But when taken as a whole, support and encouragement restores hope to those enduring the pang of personal hardship. The freshly-painted rooms are more than an apartment, and their home with GRACE is more than four walls.  The GRACE family gathers to encourage the client and pray a blessing of her new journey.  This week, we welcomed home our newest Transitional Housing participant, Veronica. Veronica exudes such kindness and grace.  She transparently uses her experiences as a testament to others
