Giving Thanks for Your GRACE

What does hunger look like in YOUR community? As the CEO of GRACE, providing the Food Pantry services for your community, I hear questions like this all the time. I know, it sounds farfetched that in Colleyville, Southlake, Grapevine, and other nearby communities there is hunger—or any kind of suffering and despair. Let me challenge you to think of this issue differently, consider the term “Food Insecurity”. I believe this more adequately describes the devastating issue facing hardworking families in Northeast Tarrant County. If you feel confident that you and your families will be adequately fed today, tomorrow and the rest of this month, consider yourself lucky. If waking up every day doesn’t spur fear and concern about how you will buy food for your children, formula for your infant, or pay for school lunches for your kiddos… count your blessings. For Coralita, this was not her story. She is

Women Empowering Women Empowering GRACE

Helping others is the foundation of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) – Texas Lone Star Chapter.  We are incredibly thankful HFMA chose GRACE as their 2019/2020 charity of choice for educational events, the women’s conference and golf tournament.  With an aligned vision to assist people in North Texas communities, they say it was a natural selection! Last Thursday, HFMA hosted their “Be Bold & Brave” LONE STAR WOMEN’S DINNER MEETING benefitting GRACE at Las Colinas Country Club.  It was an evening to celebrate and focus on empowering women, complete with a cocktail reception and seated dinner with the hilariously poignant Diana Jorden as keynote speaker. The Women’s Conference Committee organized an impressive silent auction offering one-of-a-kind works of art from local women artists,  chic outfits from always fabulous CAbi, stylish jewelry and other tchotchkes that any woman would adore.  All proceeds from the auction were donated to GRACE!

Welcome Home, Sherrie

Sherrie was smiling inside and out as many gathered to welcome her into her new home.  Her bright eyes and happy face presented a side of comfort and confidence as she embarks on her new journey with the GRACE Transitional Housing Program. Starting over with a new residence, community or career might be the best decision for your family’s well being or safety, but it’s not always easy.  In fact, it might be the most difficult decision you’ll ever have to carry out. That’s why GRACE staff, supporters and congregants from White’s Chapel United Methodist Church answer the calling to make sure women and men entering our GRACE Transitional Housing Program are strengthened and encouraged from the moment they step into their new home. GRACE CEO Shonda Schaefer is always the first one to welcome the new recipients with open arms as she gives her compassionate pep talk.  This

Good as Gold

GRACE Community Clinic was awarded Gold status in the Target BP Program for the third year in a row.  Target BP is an evidenced-based hypertension control program in a ceremony led by the American Heart Association’s National Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Eduardo Sanchez. It is a call to action motivating medical practices, practitioners and health services organizations to prioritize blood pressure control.  This Program recognizes healthcare providers who attain high levels of blood pressure control in their patient populations, particularly those who achieve 70% to 80% or higher control. Hypertension is the first catalyst in the “domino effect” chain that can ultimately lead to  a number of devastating consequences including stroke, heart failure, sexual dysfunction, vision loss, heart attack, and kidney disease/failure. An estimated 85.7 million adults (roughly 1 in 3) in the U.S. have hypertension; 45.9%, which accounts fo 36.7 million individuals, of those with hypertension are not

Compass Leads the Way to GRACE

Compass has been a significant contributor of GRACE since 1995, giving nearly $400,000 to GRACE Programs.  Not only have they been incredibly instrumental through monetary gifts, but they have also gifted their time and talents.  Volunteers have donated over 1,000 service hours to many projects throughout the year. By far one of the biggest events Compass does for GRACE is an annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.  Last year, it was the congregation’s goal to provide 10,000 Thanksgiving meals between their four campuses. This year, boxes were printed and filled with lists of holiday food items each family or individual is to receive in their holiday baskets, along with encouraging scriptures and an envelope for “turkey money.”  The boxes were available to church members at each of Compass’ services this past week, and are to be filled and returned during services this upcoming week. A boy scout troop has eagerly volunteered to
