Cooking Matters, a program of Share Our Strength through Tarrant Area Food Bank, is a cooking-based nutrition program. This innovative program provides a long-term solution to hunger and poor nutrition by demonstrating strategies to get the best nutrition possible on a limited budget.  GRACE is a site host for the program which had twelve graduates from our most recent class!

These hands-on courses are taught by nutrition and culinary instructors who volunteer to teach nutrition, cooking, food budgeting and shopping techniques. Additionally, groceries are provided for participants to take home at the end of class each week so that they can practice preparing the healthy recipes at home to share them with their families.

Cooking Matters volunteers help ensure that the participants have a great class experience and are able to put the healthy habits they learn into practice at home. You can volunteer next as a culinary or nutrition instructor, course manager or assistant, Spanish interpreter or store tour assistant.

Tarrant Area Food Bank offers these courses in collaboration with Partner Agencies like GRACE and other community organizations that agree to host and promote courses to their clientele.  GRACE just began a new course this week and we look forward to educating the next round of graduates!
