In Memory of Irene Orupabo

It is with a heavy heart that we acknowledge the recent passing of Irene Orupabo, one of our very own GRACE staff and family members, who passed away Tuesday, June 4.  To our GRACE family, she was an endearing friend.  To say she was well-loved is an understatement.  Irene brought joy and sweetness to customers, volunteers and team members through her role at GRACEful Buys.  A void remains with her passing, a hole in the store, a loss we all are feeling. Encounters with Irene were always brightened with her funny, happy, often sassy countenance.  Her regulars at GRACEful Buys were truly like family.  It was well known that she had an ear and a heart to listen to others, but those that knew her closely understood the depth of her caring.  GRACEful Buys Manager, Terri Haun, explained her well. “It is impactful how much people really did love her.

Stories of GRACE

In our line of work, there is no shortage of stories – sweet, encouraging, tragic, triumphant.  Stories of loss.  Stories of picking up the pieces.  Stories of sharing the one sandwich you have with another, turning that one sandwich into two.  Stories of lifting up others.  Stories of overcoming the gloomiest of days. As a GRACE family, we love sharing these stories with one another.  We never take for granted the awesome ways we see, hear, and are able ourselves to impart some of the grace we receive into the lives of others.  There is always so much to give even when it appears there is none left to give.  And there is always an abundance to receive at GRACE where others are standing-by, ready to lift each other up in deed, spirit and prayer. Here are two recent, precious encounters shared by a dear volunteer, Linda Steele, and

Eagle Scout Alex Mathison Builds GRACE a Fence

GRACE is extremely grateful to the young men who have invested their energy, skill set and time to build an Eagle Project that serves our GRACE family. The Eagle Scout rank is not one that is easily attained.  Boys Scouts must live by the principles of the Scout Oath and Law – which places high value on service and honor – and earn a total of 21 merit badges that range from first aid to the “Citizenship in the Nation” badge, which encourages scouts to be grateful for their liberties and rights. Among other requirements is an individual service project deemed helpful to a religious institution, school or community, otherwise known as the Eagle Scout Project. A project proposal must be thought up by the Boy Scout, approved by the Boy Scout Council, and executed. Alex Mathison is a sophomore at Colleyville Heritage High School.  He is on the

NorthGate Constructors Present The Connector Cup Benefitting GRACE

Our CEO and several of GRACE staff joined members of NorthGate Constructors and their affiliates today at Bear Creek Country Club for a day of well-deserved fun, relaxation and charity.  It turned out to be a pleasantly cloudy day perfect for NorthGate’s annual golf tournament which raises funds for GRACE Programs! Alyssa Tenorio, Public Information Manager for NorthGate Constructors, did a fabulous job in organizing and overseeing this year’s event.  Over 150 golfers turned up bright and early at the golf course for some friendly competition and tremendously helpful fundraising.  Last year’s tournament resulted in a gift of $20,000 to GRACE! Players were welcomed with a breakfast burrito buffet, plus snacks and drinks flowed throughout the day, making for an entertaining event.  They were also treated to a celebratory Hawaiian themed lunch complete with prizes – from a golf bag to golf gear and even Ranger’s tickets – and awards

GRACE Grocery Giveaway is in Full Gear!

Giving back to the community is important because with all of life’s ups, downs and goings-on, we can often fail to appreciate everything we have.  When we recognize that there are many people out there with far less, we tend to value a roof over our head, the car we drive, food on the table and a stable job so much more. That’s why we launched GRACE Grocery Giveaway, a program that began in the summer of 2015.  During the summertime, our Pantry truck travels to Feed Our Kids sites every Friday to distribute food that is close to expiration to children and families in need.  We are hoping to have three separate volunteer sites this summer. The purpose of the GRACE Grocery Giveaway is to provide families with food before the weekend so they have meals to put on the table.  After all, weekends are when families spend the

Say Hello to the Newest Addition to our GRACE Clinic and Family

GRACE Community Clinic is happy to introduce our newest Nurse Practitioner to join our family, Leslie C. Hatcher, MSN, APRN, CCE, FNP-C (licensed in Texas and Hawaii)! Leslie created Green Life Wellness in 2010, as a global platform to share academic and independent research on correlations between poor pregnancy outcomes, childhood illnesses, and the use of life disrupting chemicals in the community. As a former critical care RN and mother, it was the health of her own family and countless patients which prompted a deeper look into environmental health practices and regulations within communities. What started with a rashy baby, a baffled pediatrician, and an investigation into playground wood chips, blossomed into a globally connected research group of like-minded professionals and parents. During graduate school, PEBA (Plant and Evidence Based Approach), Ms. Hatcher’s translational research in vegetarian diets during pregnancy, was added as core curriculum for childbirth educators.  Today, Green
