PARTNER SPOTLIGHT: SABRE

This month the team at Sabre collected the many articles of clothing, electronics, and household items given by the rest of the Sabre staff. It is no surprise to us that Sabre is filled with compassionate employees. The combined divisions at Sabre have given 3,600 volunteer hours and have been volunteering since 2001, making Sabre one of our most faithful partners. Throughout the years, Sabre employees have taken advantage of their employee giving matching campaign, and have served at virtually every GRACE program. In less than a workweek, Sabre collected ten overflowing boxes of donated goods. Items collected will be reserved for GRACE families in need, our Transitional Housing clients, and to our resale stores, where the proceeds go directly back to GRACE programs. Hundreds of volunteers with the company have served since in various capacities, including their “Give Time Together” and special projects. A special thanks to Sabre for

CHURCHES SHOW EGGS-ELLENT LOVE

Nearly 200 Easter baskets of all colors, shapes and sizes were purchased or assembled from members of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and White’s Chapel United Methodist Church for local children. White’s Chapel crafted homemade Easter baskets for the adults and children of the Transitional Housing program to enjoy and feel loved.  Good Shepherd has donated baskets each year for families who come through our Client Services area, and we are happy to announce that each and every Easter basket is spoken for just in time for the big Sunday. GRACE would not be able to operate without the support of local church congregations with a kindred desire to share God’s love with those in need. We are tremendously blessed to have the family at Good Shepherd Catholic Community and White’s Chapel United Methodist Church who are wholly invested extending grace to others. Looking to get involved? If you are part

GOOD FRIDAY RELFECTIONS

A note from the Executive Director, Shonda Schaefer The Psalmist wrote that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and rescues those who are crushed in spirit. On Good Friday, our community of faith reflects on the day Jesus himself was brokenhearted, crushed and forsaken. It’s the display of Jesus’ humility to go to the cross, and His majesty to overcome it that is a template for how we serve one another; leaning on His power and serving out of abundant love. At GRACE, we get to see Christ’s humility imitated on a daily basis as volunteers work behind the curtain to fold clothes for packets, tend to the Community Garden or sort through donated goods at Donation Station. It’s because of their hard work that we also see miracles—transformations that happen when a father finds employment or a single mother achieves her GED. We marvel at God’s provision through

WAYS YOU CAN LOVE ON OUR SENIOR POPULATION

It is true that our elderly population has an extra measure of wisdom, but many might be surprised to realize that with that longevity comes further hardship. More often than we realize, seniors risk facing the battles of isolation, hunger and a poor quality of life simply because they are hesitant to accept help or have no loved ones close by. Limited incomes can create excruciating conflicts between essentials such as groceries or vital medications. GRACE seeks to bridge the gap by providing material assistance in the way of groceries, utility assistance, medical care and emotional support to local seniors in the midst of troubling circumstances. We’d like to share two options that you can tailor with your time and talents to show love to seniors in a meaningful way. Deliver Monthly Commodities Volunteers provide commodities to neighboring seniors once a month. The volunteers meet at the Food Pantry in
