TAX PREP PROGRAM HELPS FAMILIES PLAN FOR THE FUTURE

Thanks to the resources of volunteers and community supporters, GRACE was able to equip qualifying families with tax assistance, financial coaching and $388,455 in tax refunds back to local families. That amount includes over $150,000 in EIC Earned Tax Incoming Credit and over $43,000 in Child Tax Credit, broadening its significant impact on families in their journey toward self-sufficiency and financial independence. Each family received an impressive average of close to $2,000 in Earned Income Credit (EIC), which translates into rent, utilities and family savings. This service is designed for law-abiding residents struggling with a fixed income whose refund would likely been left undiscovered or given a fraction of the return with a costly tax service. The achievement for each family creates a ripple effect that is far reaching, including the intangible support given during tax season for financial stewardship awareness, job coaching, and continued education resources to increase each

CANNED GOODS NEEDED FOR RELAY FOR LIFE

The American Cancer Society is partnering with GRACE to make an impact on families, while honoring the lives of loved ones who battled cancer. The Relay for Life event, happening on Saturday in Southlake Town Square, is asking for canned goods to weigh down the memorial luminaries that will surround the lake. The Relay for Life ends with a memorial ceremony for loved ones lost. Each luminary has the name of a person who a participant is honoring or remembering who has been affected by cancer. Following the event, all food items will be donated back to the Food Pantry to provide supplemental food for local families in need. The Food Pantry’s greatest current needs are beef stew, refried beans and SPAM, but any canned item will be appreciated. Participants are asked to bring the items to the event on Saturday between 4:00-10:00 p.m. Get event details here. About the

JOIN US AND ADOPT A MEAL DAY

There are still spots to be filled to provide meals to at-risk children during Feed Our Kids, happening over the summer weeks from June 8 to August 18. Serving through Feed Our Kids is a tangible, hands-on way to serve local families. Many groups opt to incorporate activities for the children as well, though not required. Feed Our Kids alleviates the burden for families by giving nutritious meals to children while school is not in session. On average, 37,000 meals are served each summer thanks to selfless volunteers and support from local restaurants. If you’ve never been part of Feed Our Kids, this summer program is ideal for churches, civic groups or businesses looking to improve internal morale and be part of giving back in a local, tangible way. There are still spots available the end of June, through July and mid-August. Groups can choose to sponsor meals at a

GCISD BRINGS NUTRITION TO FAMILIES IN NEED

Grapevine Mustangs and Colleyville Black Panthers were represented at the GRACE Food Pantry this week for their abundant collection to replenish much-needed inventory. Grapevine High School students took it upon themselves to collect some of the most-expensive items for large families: laundry detergent, diapers, cereal, soap and other toiletries. The students collected so much that it filled six industrial canvas bins—enough to span the surface area of an entire classroom! Later in the week, GCIDS Nutrition Staff brought their finest to sort goods and present donated goods to the Food Pantry. The team develops nutritious options for school lunches throughout the district, as well as educational opportunities for students to reach their maximum potential through nutrition. On top of their donations, the staff members stayed to sort expired and dented cans to ensure our clients receive the best options possible for their families. The men and women also took a

GRACE KICKS OFF VOLUNTEER WEEK

We rely on our volunteers each day we operate at GRACE, but there is one week a year that we are able to show small gestures of how much they matter to the organization. National Volunteer Week started on April 25, and there was no shortage of goodies, decorations and fun activities at each program site. This year Program Managers had fun with a Latin-American theme to show their volunteers how excelente their volunteers truly are. If you have volunteered with GRACE at any capacity, we hope you’ll join us on May 5, 2017 at Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine for the 2017 GRACE Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon. This fiesta will be complete with a photo booth, craft stand, and of course, delicious Tex-Mex courtesy of the hotel catering team. In 2016, volunteers invested over 51,553 hours at the Community Clinic, Food Pantry, Clothing Room, Resale stores, Donation Station, Friends & Family,

SPOTTED AT GRACE? THERE’S A TAG FOR THAT

When your family or group serves at one of our GRACE sites, be sure to share your photos with social media with the #GRACEGrapevine. Volunteers are encouraged to highlight their seasonal projects with the hashtag #FeedOurKids or #ChristmasCottage. Players can send us their glow gear in preparation for this evening’s Drive into the Night by tagging their Facebook and Twitter photos with #DriveintotheNight. Tag your best shot on the course and one lucky team will be featured on our social media pages. COMPASS CHURCH : NAVIGATING PEOPLE TO GOD

Compass Church is in the business of navigating people to God, and that begins with showing His love to families during their time of need. This integral partner has been a faithful ally to GRACE since the agency first began. Since 1995, Compass Church has devoted $241,000 to further GRACE programs. While we thought it was hard to outdo the love they have shown to families these many years, the congregation has gone above and beyond in generosity and service for local families. Compass Church made a surprise visit during GRACE’s monthly staff meeting, with a check for $50,000 to advance GRACE services to more families. The first installment of their charitable giving initiative, the generosity was inspired by their Uncharted 50 campaign, celebrating 50 years of ministry by the Compass Church family. The movement encourages members with three noble charges: go beyond borders to navigate thousands of unreached people across
