CULTIVATE GROWTH AT THE COMMUNITY GARDEN

The GRACE Community Garden is hosting their mid spring planting day next weekend on March 18. The team will prepare for the fall harvest with squash and melons and plant corn and peppers. The major planting project will also tend to the fruit trees and stake strawberries and raspberries. The workday begins at 9:00 a.m. until complete, usually by noon. Volunteering at the Community Garden is a healthy and rewarding way to provide wholesome nourishment for families in need. Volunteers are needed to assist in clean up, preparation, planting and tilling to ensure another fruitful season. A special thanks to GRACE volunteers Texas Master Gardener Caryn Hutchinson, Becca Clarke and Alison Shumaker for their tireless efforts to ensure that each season is a fruitful one at the Community Garden. Please RSVP to the March 18 work day by emailing Becca Clarke. If you’re not able to attend this workday but

WHITE’S CHAPEL UMC WELCOMES A FAMILY TO THEIR NEW HOME

Starting over with a new residence, community or career might be the best decision for your family’s well being or safety, but it’s not always easy. In fact, it might be the most difficult decision you’ll ever have to carry out. That’s why congregants at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church answer the calling to make sure women and men entering GRACE Transitional Housing program are strengthened and encouraged from the moment they enter their new home. The teamwork is an incredible thing to witness: one masters the essentials–plumbing, painting, and fixtures. Others have an eye for design to make the space open, inviting and beautiful. Despite their different gifts, their ultimate desire for families exceeds far beyond drapes and sofas. The freshly-painted rooms are more than an apartment, and their home with GRACE is more than four walls. On the counter was a new, hardbound bible, along with a bible story

FEED OUR KIDS SPRING BREAK VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Feed Our Kids Spring Break is now a seasonal fixture after its pilot success the last two years. Volunteers are needed to provide food each weekday from March 13-17. Anytime school is out of session, children whose families rely on free or reduced lunches are at greater risk for food insecurity. Parents of at-risk children often work long, stringent hourly shifts that prevent them from providing continual care while school is out. Serving through Feed Our Kids is a tangible, hands-on way to serve local families. Many groups opt to incorporate activities for the children as well, though not required. The site serves an average of 50 children each weekday from March 13-17. To volunteer over Spring Break or reserve summer shifts, contact Seasonal Programs Coordinator Lori Stevens today.

It has become a fixture in Southlake’s already sophisticated reputation for artistry and handsome urban culture. From April 28-30, Art in the Square will showcase 150 of some of the nation’s top artists to benefit local charities supporting women, children and families, including GRACE programs. The fine art fair boasts carefully-curated artwork and a tremendous line up of musicians, who take the stage each of the three nights of Art in the Square. Best of all, families can enjoy the festivities free of charge. The colossal endeavor was created by Southlake Women’s Club, a highly-respected nonprofit in its own right with over 150 members and unrivaled community engagement. The club has been a pillar in the Southlake and surrounding community for three decades, and raises funds for scholarships, grants and school supplies throughout the year. The club forms a vigorous committee to carefully select each represented artist and beneficiary organization. Since

RESALE FURNITURE FLIPS

There’s something almost sacred when an old, forgotten piece of furniture is given new life. A coat of varnish, fresh paint or new knobs have the power to wake up a sleepy nightstand or drab table to the most celebrated piece in the room. When it comes to finding that diamond in the rough, both GRACEful Buys locations are jewels themselves as the best-kept secret furniture destinations in the Metroplex. Did we mention that furniture is 40% off today through January 7 at both GRACEful Buys sites? There are plenty of like-new game room, dining and living room furniture from donors who went through a recent home remodel, along with pieces just begging for a new lifetime in your home. For those just dipping their toes in the world of furniture recuperation, there’s what we like to call the “iconic corner cathedra”—the lonely chair that has long been separated from
