GRACE’s “Cici” Cates Graduates from Southlake Leadership Program

The Southlake Chamber of Commerce recognized the graduates of its Leadership Program at the May 27th luncheon in Legends Hall at The Marq. GRACE Events Manager Christina Cates was among the graduates who endured a COVID-adjusted schedule. While many of the executive sessions were presented virtually during the nine-month program, class members still experienced an important team-building ropes course, participated in numerous discussion groups and tours exploring critical community issues, and completed a very meaningful service project. The leadership program provided a deep dive into some of the most challenging issues facing our society and allowed members to gain insight in to what the can do to make Southlake a better community for everyone. “It was a great honor and privilege to be a part of this leadership class,” said Christina “Cici” Cates. “We worked hard. We were stretched and challenged to do things differently—to view things differently than before.”

We are one week away from kicking off our summer feeding programs! With deep gratitude and appreciation to all of our volunteers we will serve close to 32,000 meals this summer. We have many weeks and individual dates still available this summer and we need you!  We currently have an URGENT need for volunteers: Feed Our Kids – Friday, June 4th at our Courtyards site GRACE Grocery Giveaway – Thursday, June 3rd at the Pantry. These programs are two ways our community works with GRACE to address food insecurity in our area!  Food insecurity refers to the lack of access, at times, to enough food for an active, healthy life for all household members and limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate foods. Food insecure children are those children living in households experiencing food insecurity. The rate of food insecurity for children in Tarrant County surpasses the national rate by over 3.7%.

A Special Donation!

While attending an event at Good Shepard Church in Colleyville recently, Kathy Hy and her husband Cary placed an auction bid for some new home windows with the intention of making a difference. The Hy’s won the auction and received 20, brand new, high-quality windows with installation, and they knew immediately what they were going to do with them. “We knew when we bid that we wanted to do something good with the windows and GRACE was the first thing that came to mind,” said Kathy. “We’ve always supported GRACE because we know they work to help our community.” Once GRACE was contacted our team at Client Services jumped into action and found worthy recipients for the windows. “We were able to find three Friends & Family clients who were delighted to be asked,” said Christine Szymaszek, GRACE Friends & Family Program Coordinator. “Ms. Toni Dillard is 69 years old

The Wright’s are GRACE Volunteers of the Year

The relationship between our organization and the Wright’s goes back decades and that is why we are so proud to announce the Wright Family as Volunteers of the year. The Wright’s have sponsored the 2020 Poker Tournament and this year’s (happening May 22nd, tickets still available here), made a generous contribution to last year’s Gala, and are helping us construct a brand new Donation Station that will help propel GRACE into a new phase of operational success. Judy and Lemoine Wright have been longtime supporters of GRACE, and our efforts to help those in need get back on the road to self-sufficiency. And luckily, the generosity of the Wright Family continues to grow, Lemoine’s daughter, Kindal, has been a proud GRACE Board member since 2019, helping guide GRACE into the future. “Since their first gift in 1998, the Wright’s have generously supported the mission of GRACE and so many other

Join the Donation Station Team!

Donation Station is the place where all of our GRACEful Buys goodies begin their GRACEful journey so whether its clothes, furniture, or random treasures – you’re the one making sure all the donations we receive are properly taken care of. Many times Donation Station is the first experience a donor has with our agency. They donate clothing for families and help furnish homes for our Transitional Housing clients. So it’s important that we have positive hard working people manning our drive-thru. In a very similar way, DS is often the first volunteer experience many people have at GRACE. Church and youth groups, families, companies, and many others donate their time to receive and sort donations. The heart of DS is the relationship between our employees and our amazing volunteers. It’s hard work but it’s also a lot of fun, so that’s why we are pleased to announce the “Survive the

Congratulations Jennifer Rawls!

The GRACE Family would like to congratulate our Director of Resale & Operations, Jennifer Rawls for her graduation from Leadership HEB. The intensive, eight month course provides an opportunity to increase participant’s knowledge of the community, learn team-building and leadership skills and meet community leaders. Topics covered in the class include transportation, education, public safety, health care, city government and economic development. In addition to attending informative class sessions, participants also enjoy a day trip to Austin and attend a city council meeting.  Class projects are also another large component of the program. The project for this class was organizing a blood drive for Carter Blood Care HEB and a beautification project for the Mid Cities Women’s Clinic that included landscaping. “The class really helped me understand economics and government at a local level, which has been really eye opening,” Jennifer said. “This class gave me the tools I need

Surprise Parade for Nurse Shirley!

The GRACE Family honored our Clinic Nurse Manager Shirley Roberts with a surprise parade for her recognition as one of the Great 100 Nurses of Dallas-Fort Worth.  The Great 100 Nurses list raises awareness of the contributions of nurses to patient care, research, leadership, education and community service of more than 50,000 nurses practicing in the DFW area. In addition, the list builds the image of nursing through positive reinforcement of the profession as a scientific art and the recognition of those who exemplify excellence. A huge group of well-wishers including volunteers, friends, family, GRACE board members, and even the Grapevine Police and Fire Departments lined the streets and cheered as Nurse Shirley drove by in a beautiful car that was loaned to us by Park Place Lexus Grapevine for the occasion. After the parade, everyone attended a party thrown in honor of Shirley and watched the Great 100 Nurses
