Summer is here which only means one thing, GRACE Feed Our Kids (FOK) and the GRACE Grocery Giveaway are both back to serving the community! Since the start of this summer’s FOK, GRACE has already seen hundreds of children throughout the community with the goal of serving all children who normally receive lunches through the school food programs.

Over the past 2 weeks, volunteer groups have stepped up to serve the children of the community. Providing not only lunches but also arts and crafts, games and fun activities, GRACE volunteers have proven that when we come together for a good cause, everyone has a good time.

GRACE’s Seasonal Programs Coordinator, Beth Chernik is ecstatic about the turnout of volunteers wanting to serve the community and because of that turnout, most dates and locations are filled with volunteers. However, we still have spots to fill and need your help!

I am most thankful for our dedicated volunteers and supporters.  Preparing and serving lunches for hundreds of hungry, active, growing kids takes time, creativity, patience, and resilience!  It is our amazing community that helps us fulfill our GRACE mission each hot summer day.

In the first two weeks, FOK total sites have served over 6,000 lunches to children.  GRACE Grocery Giveaway kicked into full gear as well, with 130 households and 563 individuals receiving groceries within week one. The GRACE Grocery Giveaway is our partnership with Tarrant Area Food Bank to bring food to the communities living in an area that has low to no access to fresh, healthy, food store options.

Both Feed Our Kids and GRACE Grocery Giveaway are vital programs to the community. According to a recent study, Tarrant County ranks 7th in poverty-stricken counties in the DFW Metroplex. Programs, like Feed Our Kids and GRACE Grocery Giveaway, help families who are currently facing food insecurity.

Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers, groups, and organizations that helped to kick off our summer food programs and serve their community.  These groups have included the National Charity League Southlake & Metroport, Young Men’s Service League Southlake, Grapevine friends and neighbors from the City, Police Department, Parks & Rec, and Public Works; Southlake Muslims; Hope Worldwide DFW; First Baptist Grapevine; Abiding Grace Lutheran Church; First Baptist Grapevine; White’s Chapel Methodist Church; theWomen of Perceptor Omicon Psi, Grapevine Animal Services; Wise Guys Pizzeria and Zania Karim and friends.

If you, your friends, family, neighbors, company, or organization would like to volunteer, please contact Beth Chernik at bchernik@GRACEGrapevine.org. GRACE would love to have you!
