Sneak Peek at Gala LIVE!

With the GRACE Gala just a week away, all of our final plans are taking shape. We are at “near-sell-out” status. Eighty tables of ten are platted on the Irving Convention Center diagram, and more than 780 guests have already registered. Of course, GRACE Chief Executive Officer Shonda Schaefer always succeeds in fitting “a few more tables”, if needed (hint: http://www.gracegala.com to book and register your table/seats). One of our last tasks is to choose which items to include in our Live Auction. We try to limit the Live Auction portion of the program to just one hour—dancing (The Walton Stout Band) begins right after the auction. We limit our Live Auction to just 12 packages so we can hit the dancefloor! With dozens of excellent options, it’s a daunting task to determine the 12 to auction. All the others go to our Big Board Auction. And, of course, our

GRACE Garden Work Day October 9

After crushing summer heat, it’s finally time to enjoy the great outdoors and what better way to do that than at the GRACE Community Garden! This Saturday is Early Fall Tending day. Participants will plant winter crops which do well in the fall weather. All produce harvested will go in the GRACE Food Pantry. Some of the other plots will be worked include some that were planted in spring and are now ready for harvest.   Garden Work Days are a great way to give back to the community and for those new to gardening, a wonderful opportunity to learn. Volunteers do not need to be gardeners—demonstration and teaching are part of the GRACE Garden experience. The Garden is supervised by volunteer certified master gardeners and maintained by trained volunteers, some who are clients and give back by working in the gardens. Ultimately, Garden volunteers find joy in planting, growing, and

Family Game Night is Back!

Last Friday a tradition returned to GRACE! Past sessions of “Family Game Night”—a collaboration featuring the First Baptist Church of Grapevine, the Grapevine Police Department Community Outreach Center, and GRACE was a massive celebration of fun, food, and fellowship. Huge checkerboards hosted fierce competitions with plate-sized checkers and knee-high chess pieces. Toddler-sized inflatable bowling pins tumbled to beachball-sized bowling balls. Picnic table-after-picnic table sat moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles, extended families, and kids, kids, kids. Well, the kids rarely sat. Many times GRACE was the venue, but Family Game Night traveled to the Mustang Drive location of the Community Outreach Center, and the old GRACE Main at the foot of Scribner Street at Shady Brook so the families in the neighboring areas could enjoy the evening. Moms and dads got to know the representatives of the organizers a bit better, and the assistance available with each.

Shonda Wins ‘Vette at Classic Chevrolet Tournament

To say “Good things happen to good people” pales in comparison to the situation. And Shonda Schaefer’s humbleness and sincerity would most certainly shun “Great things happen to great people”. In fact, she would say all those participating in the 10th Annual Classic Chevrolet Charity Golf Tournament on Wednesday were great and good people. And she would be right! So when Classic Chevrolet owners Susan and Tom Durant drew her raffle entry and awarded her a 2021 C8 Corvette, she would praise the Durant’s generosity, the hard work of Classic Chevrolet staff, and the support of all who made the tournament a rousing success. GRACE is one of eleven local charities supported by the tournament, and other Classic Chevrolet fundraisers throughout the year. The Durant’s have selected a variety of charities that combat poverty, hunger and homelessness, work with children and adults with disabilities, support military causes, and more. “Each

Special menus, excellent wines, amazing entertainment, and spectacular delights will thrill all our wonderful guests! Among the many highlights will be—once again—unrivaled Silent, Big Board, and Live Auctions offering packages and happenings that money cannot buy—but the highest bidder will! Special Gala volunteers will ring the Grand Ballroom with opportunities to win the very special Cabo San Lucas raffle prize—drawn at the conclusion of the evening’s program. More destination resorts, and private home getaways, hundreds of thousands of airline miles, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences await. But the wait is over—all admission opportunities

Princess Di’s Private Secy Speaks at CWC High Tea

The French-inspired interiors of Colleyville’s Montclair took on a British bearing Wednesday afternoon for a “High Tea & Royal Conversation” directed by the Colleyville Woman’s Club. Proceeds from the event benefited the causes of the club, including GRACE. Regaling the guests packing the ballroom with touching history and anecdotes of Diana, the Princess of Wales, was Patrick Jephson, Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order, and private secretary to Princess Diana. Jephson served the Princess for eight years (1988-96), and was responsible for every aspect of her public life, charitable initiatives, and private organizations. He travelled with her to five continents, working with the highest ranking government officials including US presidents and other heads of state. Under relentless media scrutiny, Jephson’s tenure covered the period of Princess Diana’s greatest popularity as well as the constitutional controversy of her separation from Prince Charles. Jephson was born and raised in Ireland and holds
