We couldn’t be more proud of Eagle Scout Logan and his coordinated effort to produce a serene butterfly garden for our Transitional Housing clients! This little oasis is not only a spa for blue jays, and a sweet shop for hummingbirds and a refuge for our fluttering friends, it is a quiet retreat for our clients to regain their focus, talk to God and enjoy nature. Logan and his group planned every detail from the plant variants that would attract the most butterflies to the type of supplies needed. The team tended to the soil, weeding, mulching and partitioning the grounds. Logan single-handedly raised funds for the project, which totaled just over $600. Logan solicited the help of his project leader along with a few fellow scouts and spent the entire day perfecting this once unappreciated plot to make it a harmonious space for all creatures in need of peace

It’s easy to lose sight of just how incredible our local franchises and businesses are. Two restaurants in particular have risen to the occasion to meet the needs of thousands of at-risk youth this summer. When a stream of cars is up ahead around lunchtime, there must be a Chick-fil-a nearby. Although the fast food revolutionaries are certainly not in wont for customers, the Grapevine Mills location has faithfully given meals for four years. The franchise will give GRACE 1,000 chicken sandwiches as needed throughout the summer during Feed Our Kids. A heartfelt thanks to Clint Cowden and his team for their generosity! Our Transition Housing program hosted their own version of “What Not to Wear” to empower women in the workforce during their latest monthly gathering. The heart behind meetings is to impart important life skills, promote unity and provide emotional encouragement. The Transitional Housing staff works hard to bring in community leaders to present topics that clients can incorporate in their everyday life at home, work, and applied to their educational goals. Clients also have the opportunity to voice barriers and find solutions in an intimate setting. The purpose for this particular evening was to show the clients in a fun way how to dress appropriately to land that perfect job that leads to a promising career.
