GRACE CELEBRATES EASTER EARLY

For the GRACE community, Easter is more than bunnies and baskets; it’s an opportunity to celebrate the light of Christ with families in the midst of a dark season. Two congregations in particular illuminated God’s love by creating a bright, jovial environment for at-risk children. Elevating the holiday encourages families to participate in Easter Sunday and perhaps find a regular church home where their family can thrive. White’s Chapel United Methodist Church hosted their first Easter Egg hunt with local families following the Feed Our Kids meal near the Food Pantry. The event was complete with colorful games, competitions, and of course, loads of candy! Thanks to the faithful generosity of the members of Good Shepherd Church for providing Easter baskets to an estimated 220 children this year! Virtually every basket was handmade with care with special goodies and encouraging notes. Their thoughtful donation will bless children who may not be accustomed

CLOTHING THE BODY, LIFTING THE SPIRIT

Can you relate to a time when you were struggling physically, emotionally or financially and a friend rises to the occasion to let you know they’ve got something covered? Meals for the week? Done. Dropping off the kids at sports practice? We got you. It’s rarely the task or item itself more than knowing someone is there to alleviate the weight of one more burden you’re convinced you don’t have the wherewithal to carry. The motto at the GRACE Clothing Room is, “Clothing the Body, Lifting the Spirit.” There’s a sense of hospitality at the Clothing Room and gentle reassurance that GRACE is here for families struggling to make ends meet for their children. That’s why we are indebted to companies like BELK, who provided 650 family members with new socks as part of their Grand Opening celebration last week. To a child in need, a pair of Superman socks might

MARCH ADVOCATES FOR SOCIAL WORKER MONTH

It’s been said that social work is the art of listening and the science of hope. The GRACE Social Workers not only advocate for clients to make positive changes in their lives, they provide unyielding support and helpful tools for promising paths. For March’s Social Worker Month we can’t help but highlight the top-notch cast of social workers who call GRACE home. There simply isn’t a more worthy group of Social Workers than the dedicated women at GRACE: Marcela Melendez, LaDondra Wilson and Lori Headley. Marcela (Marcy) oversees the Client Services department and GRACE case managers, who collaborate with family members daily to find creative solutions to overcome financial hardship. LaDondra (Dee) oversees our Transitional Housing program, which provides holistic care to predominantly single parent families fleeing domestic abuse or other family emergency. Lori Headley functions as the other Social Worker at the Transitional Housing program. Being a Social Worker isn’t

CONSIDER YOUR BLESSINGS ON MARCH 22

The financial resources needed to sustain vital programming heavily relies on individual online gifts made during 24 Hours of GRACE, an online giving campaign that hits inboxes Tuesday, March 22. Individuals are encouraged to give according to their family’s blessings so that another family struggling in the community receives food, clothing, shelter, education and medical care. Oftentimes our greatest allies are middle-class families that understand (or even remember) what it’s like to suffer a devastating blow that threatens their ability to take care of your children or keep their home. It’s the individual support on behalf of families great and small that add up to make an immeasurable difference to a family in search of hopeful support. Being wise stewards is of utmost importance to our agency, and we strive to utilize every resource to its fullest potential so we can offer a brighter future to as many families as possible.

CELEBRATE SPRING WITH GRACE GARDEN DAY

The lush vegetation at the GRACE Community Garden is a beautiful illustration of the mission of GRACE: sowing and tending to the needs of families in hopes that they thrive in good soil. Each month the GRACE Community Garden invites the community to participate in a garden day. The duties tend to vary based on the season, state and planting stages of each crop. Our upcoming garden day is special because it welcomes the spring season and all the new harvest it brings. We hope you’ll join us on March 19, when we will be planting melons, squash, tomatoes and peppers. The team will treat the fruit trees and stake raspberries and cage tomatoes and peppers. We will also mulch crops and walkways before calling it a day. The garden day begins at 9:00 a.m. and will likely end at noon, depending on volunteer response. This is an excellent way

GOOD SHEPHERD SHOWS GOD’S LOVE TO COMMUNITY

GRACE would not be able to operate without the support of local church congregations with a kindred desire to share God’s love with those in need. We are tremendously blessed to have the family at Good Shepherd Catholic Community, who is wholly invested extending grace to others. Dozens of members served at GRACE sites as part of Good Shepherd’s Parish Service Day. The majority of the volunteers greeted supporters and sorted goods at Donation Station and GRACEful Buys. Another small group tended to the Community Garden, a GRACE initiative that provides thousands of pounds of fresh, organic produce to families in need each  year. The Good Shepherd Catholic Community is a beaming display of coming to the rescue to meet tangible needs throughout the year. We can always count on their members to employ creative ways to serve, whether it’s wearing a turkey hat to raise money for holiday meals, or
