Scheduling your next dentist appointment is not something the average adult anxiously anticipates. Think back to when you were a child, and those visits were even more dreadful. While some might possess a fear of these experiences or lack the urge to spend their free time in a cold, rubber chair, others simply lack the resources to access the service altogether.

For children, a lack of dental hygiene can be even more problematic, as the teeth are still developing. The undoubtedly higher intake of sweets at a young age makes them even more prone to cavities or worse.

Dr. PJ Theodorou saw the opportunity to meet this need through the GRACE Feed Our Kids program, and he didn’t waste a second. Last Friday, Dr. J, along with his staff and wonderful volunteers from the Grapevine Masonic Lodge, set up shop at our main campus offering a free screening to any child for dental and orthodontia issues. The clinic was held between 11:30 and 1:30 in conjunction with the Feed Our Kids lunch program to diminish the hassle of transportation and time for parents.

In addition to the screening, each child was given a fun demonstration on oral hygiene along with a free dental hygiene kit. The bilingual staff worked wonderfully with the families, making the Spanish speaking clients feel heard and understood. The experience as a whole was geared toward benefitting both the parents and the children, and it was a huge success.

Dr. J and the volunteers from Grapevine Masonic Lodge were not satisfied with stopping there, however. It was decided then and there that a monthly screening would take place at GRACE in order to better reach the community. Not only will they provide free screenings, they have also expressed the desire to help families find resources to assist them in correcting any issues at a reasonable price.

Chief Programs Officer Stacy Pacholick disclosed, “The heart and passion of Dr. J, his staff and the wonderful volunteers from the Grapevine Masonic Lodge were so evident in bringing this service to the families GRACE serves.  We are so thankful for their partnership AND for their continued desire to bring dental screenings to GRACE on an ongoing basis.”

The work you are doing here is going to bless the lives of so many, and we can’t thank you enough!
