HungerVolunteers from First United Methodist Church in Grapevine will brave some of the warmest temperatures so far this year to bring nourishment and summertime fun to children at all Feed Our Kids sites next week.

Early in the season, leaders at First United Methodist (FUMC) signed up to serve a full week at all five GRACE Feed Our Kids sites. Plans have been underway at FUMC since that time to fill all the volunteer slots, and make sure supplies of food, beverages, utensils, plates, cups and all the essentials were in place.

It is fairly customary for a group to take on a full week at any one site. Also, it is not unusual for some groups, like the National Charity League chapter in Southlake, to take on a single location over multiple weeks.

Yet to serve all five sites for a full week is truly exceptional. By the end of next week, FUMC will provide more than 3,000 lunches to area children and create fun summertime memories for hundreds of children.

But this is not the end of the story.

FUMC pastor Armando Alvarado and his team signed up to serve the GRACE Main site for four consecutive weeks, beginning next week and running through August 3—providing another 1,000 meals.

Armando’s team includes several parents who are GRACE clients and live in the neighborhood served by the Feed Our Kids site. Some of these parents had children who were served through the Feed Our Kids program, according to Lori Stevens, GRACE Feed Our Kids manager.

“This is their way of giving back,” said Lori. “And helping other families who are in need.”

The Feed Our Kids program continues through August 17. With the first five weeks completed, Lori reports an average of 3,350 lunches have been served every week.

Volunteers are still needed for a few remaining dates in August. Please consider being a part of this very beneficial program, call Lori at 817-488-7009, ext. 329 or email lstevens@gracegrapevine.org.
