Women’s Division Spreads Christmas Spirit!

For many years now, The Women’s Division of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce has partnered with GRACE’s Friends & Family program to lavish our senior clients with gifts, home décor, and cash donations. That tradition is still going strong, and was a huge success last weekend! Hundreds of our seniors woke up early on Saturday morning to witness generous visitors from the Women’s Division with arms-full of gifts from their Christmas list. Shopping for necessities was a common goal this year, so many clients received toiletries, cleaning supplies and small meals that last. The goal of this event is not only to give our senior clients Christmas presents, but also to show them the community cares for them and that we are always looking to help in any way possible. Many of our senior clients do not have family who live nearby, so isolation and depression can become a huge

Two New Additions to the Family!

The GRACE Transitional Housing program, headed by Martisha Smith and Ravan Anderson, is one of GRACE’s most rigorous but rewarding programs. The two-year program gives women a fresh start in life the second they reach our doorstep. By providing a fully furnished home, food in the fridge and pantry and the all resources necessary to get a degree and a job, each client is set up to reach self-sufficiency. This week, Transitional Housing was lucky to welcome two new moms and their kids into the big GRACE family. One of these families will get to live in the home lovingly decorated by two sisters, Taylor (14) and Brady Burnett (12). Instead of spending money on gifts, Shannon Burnett’s oldest daughter came to her with the idea of doing a service project. Her little sister wanted to join shortly after, giving up her birthday presents, too. The girls started the renovation

GRACE Winter Crisis

GRACE has been in “crisis mode” since the March 2020 outbreak of COVID-19 and has overcome nearly all of the challenges that came its way. The winter storms that pounded North Texas this week are no exception. GRACE assisted the City of Grapevine’s warming facility at The REC, which served as the official warming station for those without electricity in their homes. GRACE staff worked with the American Red Cross and Grapevine Police, Fire, and Medical Services on numerous services to those in need. GRACE caseworkers have been on call 24/7 to provide food, sheltering, clothing, and medical care as needed. Blessings Coming Back

After all that has happened in the last couple of years, we here at GRACE still have the same goal as we did when we first started, and that was to lend a hand to anyone in the community that has fallen on hard times. The GRACE Staff has made it their mission to change those in need of help, and they recognize that their hard work pays off not only in actions, but in words as well. Marisol Landaverde is one of our bilingual caseworkers, and she has been at GRACE for a little over a year and every day is a different day and a different story for her. The amount of clients that she spends time with and gets to know are increasing day by day. Her love of listening to stories and creating relationships with clients is what brings her back into the office every day.

Christmas Cottage Takes on Kelly!

When thinking about Christmas, you can’t help but to wonder: how big do other states and cities celebrate it? Do they throw up a sign or two, or do they go all out with musical lights, tree decorations and holiday traditions? Living in Grapevine, you are already familiar with how we do it here. If you don’t, simply take a stroll downtown, and your jaw will hit the pavement. GRACE was fortunate to travel to California to visit a fellow Texas relative this month. CEO Shonda Schaefer and Stacy Pacholick were invited to the Kelly Clarkson Show to share the story of Christmas Cottage and how it is reaching the community. You heard it right- award winning, country singing, and now daytime Emmy award winning show host, Kelly Clarkson! This amazing opportunity came when Clarkson, a Texas native, wanted to do a segment on someone making a positive impact this

Last Minute Gift Guide!

In the age of the one-click shopping experience, you would think the daunting task of Christmas shopping would have gotten faster. Somehow, this year especially, it seems to be getting slower! Maybe this is due in part to our ability to incessantly stalk the UPS guy, but this gives little comfort. With less than two weeks standing between you and Christmas morning, the stress certainly feels justified. Well stress no more – GRACE has the perfect gift waiting for you that Amazon and Target can’t offer. Instead of scouring every retail store and website that comes to mind, purchase a spot at this year’s exclusive GRACE Poker Tournament. For the person who has everything, this gift presents the lasting experience of playing poker with the advice of World Series of Poker champion, Bryan Campanello. Not only this, but participation in the tournament directly funds GRACE programs. The exchange of glances,

A Wrap on Christmas Cottage Open House

It’s the GRACE Christmas Cottage opening of the year! Yes, you heard it right, the GRACE 2021 Christmas Cottage is back in action. After last year’s Christmas Cottage full of COVID precautions, this year’s celebration felt a little more normal and ten times as festive! Santa Claus made his special holiday appearance delighting guests with his jolly laugh, and asking children what they wanted for Christmas. Santa was not the only special guest to come and surprise the children. Batman flew in from Gotham City to be at the GRACE Christmas Cottage to greet kids as well! The food was catered by Rena Frost from Mac’s on Main, who brought a stunning arrangement of fruits, veggies, and cheeses. Steve Brown catered some of his specialties from Esparza’s, including quesadillas, taquitos and tamales for everyone to enjoy. Classic Christmas music filled the air as everyone mingled, ate, sipped on wine, and

Spreading That Warm, Fuzzy Feeling

If you were to ask the average high school freshman where most of their energy is spent, the majority might answer something along the lines of playing sports, keeping up with grades, or simply trying to navigate the new and overwhelming experience that is high school. Any one of us can empathize with these answers, because we’ve all been “fish” at some point. Taylor Cross is one of those special few who is managing to juggle all of that on top of starting her own cause. Taylor is a student at Covenant Christian School in Colleyville, and at the age of 14, she has already found her passion and brought it to life! With her big heart for kids, Taylor has made it her mission to ensure each child checked in at Cook Children’s Hospital would leave with a fuzzy teddy bear in their arms. These are not your ordinary

The Donation Station Dynamic Duo

“Hard times don’t define you, they refine you.” This quote hits the nail on the head when speaking of these young men. Growing up in difficult times can leave some people feeling discouraged, but brothers Zeyad and Moeaz are far from it. After falling on difficult times, the boys’ mother Reem moved her family into the GRACE Transitional Housing program. During this time, the young teens focused their mind on sports, specifically football, cross country, wrestling, and bike riding, which gave them a desire to never give up and to always be willing to work hard for the things you want. Looking back now, it is with confidence that they can say their hard work and dedication to school is paying off. After the family graduated from the Transitional Housing program, the brothers were rewarded with a spot in the GCISD Collegiate Academy program. By the time they graduate, they
