GRACE Community Clinic Nurse Manager, Shirley Roberts, hit the big time in medical supplies thanks to our Clinic’s relationship with Direct Relief, our international non-profit partner, with a value and savings of $33,895 for GRACE!

Direct Relief is a humanitarian aid organization active in all 50 states and more than 80 countries.  Their mission is to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies – without regard to politics, religion, or ability to pay.  GRACE is a member of Direct Relief through which we order medications and medical supplies as available and needed for our clients.

A few weeks ago we were offered Tresiba, a long-acting insulin, for our clients, of which we were in great need.  Nurse Roberts was able to obtain 100 vials of the medication last week – a retail value of $33,895!  53% of our active clients are diagnosed as pre-diabetic or diabetic.  Out of our current active diabetic clients, 29% of them are on insulin.

This week we were immediately able to put our new insulin supply to use.

Our client, a 56 year old female with a diabetes diagnosis, returned to our Clinic this week after being out of the country for six months.  She had run completely out of all of her medications, and lost her glucometer, leaving her unable to check her blood sugars.

We were able to send her to lab and schedule an appointment with one of our providers.  During her Clinic visit, our provider ordered insulin refills to her other oral medications and provided her with a new glucometer and supplies.  We were very blessed that the needed insulin had arrived, allowing us to immediately provide insulin and also educational information during her Clinic visit.

“God always knows what we need and provides it on a daily basis in order for us to continue to service our clients.”
