GRACE exists for those experiencing financial hardship, and each case is different. GRACE believes that every unique case deserves a unique solution that will both stabilize the household and guide our clients toward self-sufficiency.
Earlier this month, a client came to request assistance from several of GRACE’s programs. She shared that she was recently diagnosed with cancer and was recently discharged from the hospital. Due to this hospital stay, the client was unable to work, and her last paycheck from her employer was issued at the end of April. Though she has been released from the hospital, she has not been medically cleared to return to work for at least three months and has limited resources to fill that gap, so she came to GRACE.
After hearing the unique details of her situation, the client and her care manager determined that access to the GRACE Food Pantry would alleviate the most pressure so that she doesn’t have to worry about food insecurity during this time, and that other services would be made available to her as needed during her recovery period.
This client was deeply grateful for the assistance provided during this difficult time and shared that, while she was anxious to return to work, as she thoroughly enjoys her job, she knew that prioritizing her health was necessary during this time and is thankful that GRACE is allowing her to do so.
