The GRACE Friends and Family Program supports clients in our community who are elderly or disabled. And this month we wanted to share a few recent highlights from the program and share with you how you can be a part of the story!
Earlier this year, a Friends and Family client found herself unable to continue to drive her car, so she donated it to GRACE, it’s always heartwarming for us to see those we have helped wanting to give back in response to what they have received. Transportation limitations are becoming a growing area of need that we continue to hear about from our clients, many often use ride-shares or rely on loved ones to get them to and from work or medical appointments. This gift of a vehicle with make a life changing impact.
Our second moment we wanted to highlight shows the impact our community has on these households. Knowing many of our seniors are home bound, a local young adult and married couples group coordinated with GRACE and spent almost 3 hours cleaning up several senior's flower beds making their spaces brighter and helped deliver beautiful garden stones that were handmade by a 6th grade students’ art club specifically for the clients in Friends & Family.
And the final story, a client recently came to GRACE who is deaf but independent. GRACE was able to help him feel more secure in his home by providing rent assistance, cleaning supplies and access to the pantry as he begins his path towards self sufficiency. He is currently working with an ASL translator provided by the DMV to regain his driver’s license which will make his search for full time employment much easier.
From housing support and transportation needs to hands-on help that encourages independence, our Friends and Family coordinator, Gena Bohl, and her volunteers do incredible working with these clients and are always looking for more volunteers to help meet the need!
