A Touch of GRACE

GRACE exists for the unexpected, and while for the past several years the unexpected seems to have come in unending waves, we had a visit from two clients in the last month that encouraged us. Both faced the unexpected, but they had already reestablished their path to self-sufficiency on their own and just needed our help to stay there.

First, a client came seeking housing assistance due to her company suddenly shutting down. Fortunately, she already had a part-time job, but it was obviously not enough to sustain her monthly bills. She stated that once her company shut down, she quickly enrolled in trade school, and she was offered a job before ever arriving to GRACE. With funds she had already secured and our help, she was able to make her full housing payment and felt confident that she would be financially stable moving forward with training for the new job beginning the week after her visit to us.

The second client who came to us faced the unexpected in a more personal way. Due to a sudden loss in the Spring of this year, this client had tried to continue working, but the course of navigating grief made it very difficult and eventually impossible to continue. However, now, she is determined to regain stability. She has begun driving for Uber, had two part-time jobs, and despite a few unexpected expenses that brought her to GRACE, was determined to remain resilient in the face of her loss.

“I know I can do it, I just need a little help.” She said.

While GRACE was able to fully assist these two clients in their time of need, it’s their determination that resonates strongly with us this month. Each of these had a clear plan for continuing to work and rebuild their financial stability – they just needed a touch of GRACE.
