Since the first conversation in 1986 that eventually lead to our founding in 1987, the focus of GRACE has been on how we can offer the most effective assistance to those in need. We’ve discovered over the years that there is no ‘cookie cutter’ solution. Every family that enters our doors has a unique story, and they deserve a tailored solution.
Late in March, a client came to GRACE with one of those unique stories. He came to us seeking assistance with transportation as his car needed repair and the estimated cost was well beyond his means. Without a working car, he had been getting by on a bicycle and was doing his best to manage daily responsibilities despite the challenges, but it was time to ask for help.
During the conversation with a care manager, the client offered some further detail on why his financial situation was as it was. In the aftermath of a difficult divorce, he had been evicted, and since an eviction on record makes it nearly impossible to secure a new apartment, his only option was to rely on a hotel as a home. Almost all his income was going to secure shelter.
After hearing his unique story, GRACE’s tailored solution was to provide necessary car repairs ensuring secure and reliable transportation for the path ahead.
