The words donor, staff and volunteer are all synonymous with the word “family” here at GRACE. The connections we make along the way are precious, but even sweeter are the relationships with individuals who continue to walk through our doors. One of those in particular is the dedicated and kind-hearted Richard Weiss, a volunteer who has been someone we could call on for over 20 years.
Dick could remember seeing the horizon of the Atlantic Ocean right outside his bedroom window when he was a young boy, and maybe that’s what sparked his career in the Navy after graduating from University of Tennessee in Landscape Architecture. Dick achieved the rank of O-5 Commander Unrestricted Rate during his 20+ years in the Navy, where he got the urge to help others. After selling his business of 28 years, he found GRACE, where he could still give back to the community that he adored. What’s next for Dick? He is relocating to the east coast to North Carolina where we can be closer to relatives.
In his time with us, you could always find him restocking the pantry shelves and putting a smile on customers’ faces. When the pantry was in need of extra hands, he never failed to show up.
Richard, thank you for your dedicated service and for being a part of the GRACE family- everyone will miss you!
