DeVega Family

Shannon and Charles DeVega and Family rocked the “Sesame Street” theme at GRACE Christmas Cottage this season. Charles is “Oscar”, by the way, and Shannon is “Kermit”. See more of their story in a video link below.

With four days to go, GRACE Christmas Cottage has already equaled last year’s record number of families served, and is heading to another record-breaking year, according to Lori Stevens, Christmas Cottage Manager.

BUT, Lori is quick to add, “Please, please, please! We need gifts for teenagers.” Always, gifts for the teenage members of our client families seem to lag behind the stuffed animals, riding toys, baby dolls, and action figures for the younger children.

“God love them, donors think of babies and young children at Christmas,” said Lori. Still, it is sad to see the disappointment on the faces of the teenagers—many who accompany their mothers to Christmas Cottage.

Lori said the VERY BEST gift is a $25 Gift Card to Walmart. Teenagers can choose something to match their every-changing tastes. Also, there are usually a few dollars left on the card so they can buy some small gifts for their siblings and parents as well.

Christmas Cottage is located at 1250 William D. Tate in Grapevine (next to JoAnn’s Fabrics). While you are madly rushing around today to tomorrow (Saturday) finishing up your Christmas, please stop in with your gift cards. Many thanks and blessings to you!

Hooray for the Elves!

Lori is first to express her undying gratitude to the dozens of volunteers who have served hundreds of hours at Christmas Cottage already.

The volunteers—Lori’s “Christmas Cottage Elves” work many long hours preparing and stocking Christmas Cottage in advance of the season. After opening, it is “all hands on deck” working with client families, restocking, gathering and sorting new toys, and traveling from place-to-place across the Metroplex to pick-up donated toys.

Shannon and Charles DeVega and their family have been part of Christmas Cottage for years. For the DeVega’s, like many GRACE volunteers, they see their work as giving back to those in need as others have helped them in past years.
